Surgery is one of the cardinal Clinical Departments in the Center that provides basic and specialist surgical care. The department runs specialist clinics on Mondays and Thursdays while operation days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Consultant ward rounds are conducted Wednesdays.

We also do morning reviews on Mondays and fridays for the purpose of teaching House Officers. The department holds seminars on Thursdays to update staff knowledge.

Surgery Department undertakes both and elective and emergency surgical procedures. Among the emergencies is included:

• Laparotomies for various cases of acute abdomen
• Appendectomies
• Suprapubic cystostomies
• Fractures manipulations and stabilizations
• and others.

The department also does elective surgeries in urology, orthopaedics and general surgery, depending on the available facilities.
